December 9th, 2008

“Coal oil and sugar; put a few drops on a teaspoonful of sugar.” The coal oil produces vomiting, relieving the trouble. If the first dose does not have this effect upon the child, repeat it.

My 80 year old brother in law remembers taking kerosene and sugar when he was a little kid. Back then, a doctor was not readily available. His mom used this remedy along with the towel and steam method. He still is in great shape today!

I was just talking to my Dad who told me his grandmother use to give them Kerosene and sugar for coughs when he was a child. He’s in his 80’s and recalls this. I can’t image doing this today but he is all good!

My Dad gave us a teaspoon of sugar with 3 drops of kerosene on it for a bad cold. It cleared it up.
I am 77 and in very good health.
A lot of the medicine they give us today does not do very good at all. That nasty stuff I had to take worked and I am still very healthy today.

I was just telling my daughter that mom use to give us karosene and sugar. She couldn’t believe it. So found your website. Was surprised others remembered this old Remedy. Does anyone know why it works?

I’m 71 and was given the coal oil and sugar remedy as a child for the croup. It was the only thing that would stop my coughing. It was NOT used to induce vomiting as others have suggested. It stopped the coughing.

    I turned 65 this year.
Growing up In rural Alabama during the 50’s and 60’s, we couldn’t afford to go to the doctor.
I remember my mom give me this concoction, it works but not to vomit ( like you said) but for coughing.
