Wet cotton batting with coal oil and put on the burn, keeping there until it is well.

Salve for Chilblains
Try out nicely a little mutton tallow; into this while melted, (after it is nicely strained) put an equal quantity of coal oil. Stir well together until it cools.

Cure for Rheumatism
One-quarter small teaspoonful Canadian balsam. Take three times a day after meals, a little water taken afterwards, and also rub the affected part twice a day with coal oil until a warm glow is felt.

For Neuralgia
Pour a tablespoonful of coal oil on a soft cloth, and squeeze well through it, and put it on where the pain is felt.

Croup, Coal Oil (kerosene) and Sugar for
“Coal oil and sugar; put a few drops on a teaspoonful of sugar.” The coal oil produces vomiting, relieving the trouble. If the first dose does not have this effect upon the child, repeat it.

“A little coal oil and a few drops of turpentine soaked up by snuff, and used as plaster. Makes the child sneeze after a few minutes. The poultice loosens the phlegm and the sneezing throws it off.”

Coughs, Very Simple Remedy for
“Take one-half tablespoonful hogs’ lard or salt pork grease, heat it hot, fill spoon with coal oil and swallow while hot. Have used this, will stop and cure the worst cough.” Not to be given to children.
