Hair Invigorator
Bay rum, two pints; alcohol, one pint; castor oil, one ounce ; carb. ammonia, half an ounce ; tincture of cantharides, one ounce. Mix well. This compound will promote the growth of the hair and prevent it from falling out.

Pills for the Toothache
Put a little brown sugar into a pan and boil it over the fire till it gets bubbles, then add as much ground pepper as there is sugar, take it from the fire and stir together after which make it into pills of a size that can be put into a hollow tooth.

Bark Gargle
Boil 1 oz. powdered bark and 1 drachm myrrh, in 1 1/2 pint of water, over a slow fire, till one third is wasted; strain, then add a table-spoonful of honey, and a tea-spoonful of spirits of lavender.
