Sick Headache, Camphor Application for

Ihle's Mixture for Baldness

Resorcin 1-1/2 drams
Castor Oil 1-1/2 ounces
Spirits of Wine 5 ounces
Balsam Peru 10 drops

Mix. Rub into the scalp daily with a piece of flannel.

For Rheumatism, Lumbago, Pains, Bruises and Bites of Insects

One raw egg, well beaten; half a pint of vinegar; one ounce of spirits of turpentine; a quarter of an ounce of spirits of wine; a quarter of an ounce of camphor. These ingredients to be beaten well together, then put in a bottle and shaken for ten minutes, after which, to be corked down tightly to exclude the air. In half an hour it is fit for use.

Directions: To be well rubbed in, two, three or four times a day. For rheumatism in the head, to be rubbed at the back of the neck and behind the ears.

Pomade Against Baldness

Beef marrow, soaked in several waters, melted and strained, half a pound; tincture of cantharides (made by soaking for a week one drachm of powdered cantharides in one ounce of proof spirit), one ounce; oil of bergamot, twelve drops.

Definition: Rectified Spirit

Rectified spirit is a liquid with a high concentration of alcohol, formed by multiple distillation. It is generally used for medicinal or household purposes, or very occasionally in mixed drinks. It usually has a concentration of alcohol above 75%.
